Under Canopies: check crafting from nearby storage

Steam PC (Windows) · EA player answer, October 31, 2026 · Checked 2026-11-02

The short answer

An October 31 player answer says crafting can use storage when it is close by. The original poster thanks them, but the thread does not demonstrate a measured radius or every kind of container and station.

For your setup, keep the storage nearby and read the selected recipe’s available/required material counts. If stored items are not counted, carrying the required ingredients is the direct fallback; this page does not promise remote access to all chests.

Before you start

  • Have a learned recipe, its actual crafting station and a nearby container with the correct named materials.
  • Check your current recipe count; different log or plank types are not interchangeable merely because they look similar.

Check the recipe before transferring a whole chest

Select the recipe at the appropriate station and read its available/required material counts. Compare them with the matching materials in your inventory and nearby storage. This is a local check of your setup, not a claim that we measured the game’s storage radius.

If the stored materials are included and the recipe has enough supplies, craft the quantity you want and check the output. If they are not included, move the ingredients to your carried inventory and check the card again. Do not infer an absent blueprint or wrong crafting station from a storage count alone.

Keep proximity and station limits explicit

The source’s entire qualification is that storage must be nearby. It does not establish a distance, floor-to-floor access, line of sight, every container type or a setting that enables global storage.

The Workbench’s ingredient + action is a different feature: it crafts a supported missing basic ingredient while keeping your project selected. It does not prove that a distant chest is available.

If it does not work

The recipe does not count items in a distant chest
The source only supports nearby storage. Carry the required ingredients rather than assume a global-storage setting.
You have enough of a similar-looking resource
Match the exact material name. Plain Log, Softwood Logs and different plank recipes are separate requirements.
The recipe itself is absent
Check the blueprint and station first. Missing entries are different from unavailable stored ingredients.

How to know you are done

  • Your selected recipe counts the matching supplies available in that setup, or you have moved the missing ingredients into carried inventory and can read the corrected count. Check the produced item after crafting.
