Under Canopies: craft and place a Chicken Coop

Steam PC (Windows) · Early Access v0.6.24 recipe, craft and placement footage · Checked 2026-11-02

The short answer

With the Chicken Coop blueprint learned, open the placed Wood Cutter and select Building > Chicken Coop. At x1, choose CRAFT with 12 Plank and 6 Rope.

The observed craft consumes 12 Plank and 6 Rope and creates the coop item. Equip that item, enter its displayed build action and use the placement preview's PLACE action.

After placement, the solid coop is standing in the world; its Animal Feeder has its own E OPEN interaction. Making the item alone is not the same as placing the housing.

On this page

Before you start

  • Have learned the Chicken Coop blueprint. This page does not claim a current exact route to that plan.
  • Have a placed Wood Cutter, 12 ordinary Plank and 6 Rope for one coop. The Wood Cutter itself is an earlier, separate construction task.

Use the Wood Cutter Building menu

Open your placed Wood Cutter and select Building, then Chicken Coop. The v0.6.24 frame at 48:54 shows that recipe card and its x1 quantity. Searching the Workbench for this downstream recipe is the wrong station.

Craft x1 and check the material change

Choose x1 and CRAFT. PIN RECIPE is a separate action and does not make the coop. In the sampled craft, Plank falls from 16 to 4 and Rope from 16 to 10; a Chicken Coop item appears in the hotbar.

Those before-and-after counts prove the twelve-plank, six-rope craft. They are not the inventory amounts every player must have before starting.

Equip the coop and place the preview

Equip the crafted Chicken Coop item and use its displayed build action. Move the preview to the desired valid spot and use PLACE; the preview also displays rotation controls. The source shows this as a separate stage after crafting.

Check that the translucent preview becomes a solid standing coop. At 50:00 the source is beside the placed coop and its feeder, with an E OPEN interaction on the Animal Feeder. Its empty 0/20 food state is separate from whether the coop was built.

Housing is not the entire animal-care chain

You have completed construction when the coop is placed. A wild chicken's photography, feeding and petting progress is separate; this page does not promise an immediate chicken arrival or egg.

If the feeder is empty, the sampled hint names Chicken Cups and Corn Seeds. Filling it and verifying its food counter is a separate operation, not proof that crafting the coop failed.

If it does not work

Chicken Coop is missing from the Workbench
Use the placed Wood Cutter and its Building category, after learning the coop blueprint.
The coop recipe is absent at the Wood Cutter too
Check the learned blueprint name and actual station. The source does not establish a universal reset or reload fix.
The recipe is present but red
Read the current ordinary Plank and Rope counts. One coop needs 12 Plank and 6 Rope.
You crafted an item but still have no standing coop
Equip the item and finish its build/placement preview. Crafting and world placement are separate steps.
The placed coop has no food
The feeder is a separate interaction. An empty feeder does not mean the housing craft failed.

How to know you are done

  • A Chicken Coop item is created: the observed source consumes Plank 16 to 4 and Rope 16 to 10.
  • The item is placed as a solid world coop, with its separate Animal Feeder interaction visible.
